Blueberry Nutrition for Children
I was recently asked for information about blueberry nutrition for children as well as other nutrition facts for children. I have done research and am happy to share the results. Blueberry nutrition for children can benefit the entire family. Blueberries have numerous
health benefits.
Blueberries are very healthy for children as a part of their diet. Children between the ages of 2 and 6 need to have 2 servings of fruit a day. One serving of blueberries is 1/2 cup. If your children are older than 6, they need to have 3 servings of fruit per day. With the growing problem of childhood obesity, it is important to try as much as possible to follow the food guidelines set by people who have done extensive research in this area. I like to get my information from the
USDA
website. There are numerous studies on that site about the food guide pyramid, eating healthy, and living a healthy lifestyle.
Healthy Eating Recommendations for Children The number of servings for your children is based on the amount of calories that they need. Children between the ages of 2 and 6 need about 1,600 calories per day. Older children over the age of 6 need more calories, about 2,200 per day.

The serving sizes are very important. For the fruit group, a serving is 1 medium sized fruit, or 1/2 cup of berries. Food Guidelines For Children 2 to 6 - Grains (bread, cereal, rice, and pasta) 6 servings/day

I found several great ideas that you can try to help your children eat healthy. You can try to get them to see how many colors they can eat every day. Several papers I read said that you should eat at least 5 colors a day and white and brown don't count. You can show your children the food guide pyramid and tell them how important it is to eat properly. A great site for easy to use information is
mypyramid.gov
This site has a kids section with games and teaching tools for children. Try letting your children choose some of the fruit and prepare it for a snack. It is fun to go to the grocery store with preschoolers and look for new fruit to try. My son and I have had a lot of fun looking around the produce section at the grocery store. This is a great way to teach children about several things including new types of fruit. Remember that it is important for your children to be active as well. I know this can be hard with the video games and other things that keep kids inside on the couch. I have found that my boys love to go out and play if I am outside. We have also tried to start doing activities as a family. We go on walks, ride bikes, and play frisbee together. If you would like more information about blueberry nutrition for children, please
