Blueberries Fight Urinary Tract Infection
Urinary tract infection (UTI) occurs when bacteria (usually E coli bacteria) attaches itself to the bladder wall. These infections can be painful. Women are ten times more likely to get these infections than men. I have had a problem with chronic UTI's in the past couple years. I actually had an infection when I started my daily dose of blueberries in the form of blueberry juice. The juice didn't cure my infection (it was really bad), but it has stopped the frustrating cycle of getting one infection after another. Blueberry juices have been proven to decrease the incidence of UTIs. That is because chemicals in the blueberries (the same that give cranberry juice power) may prevent the E-coli bacteria from multiplying in your urinary tract. It also prevents the bacteria from making a home in your bladder by attaching to the bladder wall. You have probably heard that cranberry juice is the cure for a bladder infection. I don't like cranberry juice and had a hard time drinking the amount I needed to get the benefit. Blueberries and blueberry juice have the same nutrients in them that help cranberries fight urinary infections. Blueberries and blueberry juice have many health benefits, fighting bladder infections is just one benefit that has made an impact in my life.
